- Antibiotic resistance is a huge issueIn The Future of HealthJuly 25, 2022Here is something from WHO - but sepsis numbers are unknown or increasing... https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/antibiotic-resistance#10
- What if large scale technical interventions fail? What if new technologies developed will not be promising enough? In Climate & GeoengineeringAugust 26, 2022Interesting frame - epistemic failure. Is failure not in the DNA of science? Is falsification of a hypothesis an epistemic success or an epistemic failure? The idea that major risks are associated only with epistemic failures would fly in the face of one of the most successful large scale scientific experiments ever, known as the "Manhattan Project"...0
- Introduce yourselfIn WelcomeJanuary 26, 2022@Ann Odell Hey, Thanks for sharing. Actually I did not know about them, it is a very fine project. I would try to reach out for them and get to know more about their work. I could also convey your and your friend's hello if you shared the name with me.0

- What would a world without humans be like?In SandboxFebruary 28, 2022Very interesting. Never thought about humans dying out, rather escaping our earth to leave to another planet. Even long after our existence, we still impact the earth (negatively, damaging it due to our selfish behaviour and infrastructure). But it actually seems to create an environment of recovery and enabling the earth to thrive again. For some reason, perhaps it's the calm voice, it seems peaceful... Really cool website btw! We are actually planning to have a "storytelling section" so that we can discuss and share different future scenarios.10
- The Rise of A.I. Fighter PilotsIn General AIJanuary 26, 2022Yes, besides classical Asimov's laws, values are an essential aspect. But as long as humans lack values, we will hardly convey them to an AI. I liked your approach that artificial intelligence has to be raised like a child, and it reminded me of movies like Blade Runner and Ex Machina. Thanks fot that nice scenario.00
- Slowly getting serious about solar geoengineeringIn Climate & GeoengineeringFebruary 21, 2023When did it happen that we live in a science fiction movie? I missed the note about this. On topic: I find geoengineering extremely exciting, but we cannot predict the impact even with a lot of computing power.00
- A sign of improving US China relations in science and technologyIn Global CommonsJanuary 21, 2022For the first, I think the Joint Research Centre is a nice model - an international sui-generis organisation (Euratom) pools expertise in research in a crucial topic (nuclear) and in no time (20 years) European Commission ends up employs scientists to work together on projects of interest to the whole EU. Could work for the global as well ;-)10
- Your Medical History Might Someday Include "Climate Change"In The Future of HealthJanuary 25, 2022As someone with high blood pressure, I'm at risk of heat stroke or overexertion anyway. When I see what temperatures Australia had last week, I am sure I would have suffered physical damage.00
- Introduce yourselfIn WelcomeApril 12, 2022Welcome everyone! Please introduce yourself so that the community gets to know you better :) Who are you, what do you do and where are you from? What kind of projects are you currently working on?00
- Geoengineering: A Horrible Idea We Might Have to DoIn Climate & Geoengineering·May 16, 2022"By the end of the 21st century, humanity is becoming desperate. Decades of heatwaves and droughts have led to unusually poor harvests, while the warming oceans yield fewer fish each year. In the tropical zones, millions suffer from famine and resource wars have made millions more flee to the north. As things quickly get worse, in an act of desperation, the world's governments decide to enact an emergency plan... It is far from certain that a grim scenario like this will play out. But the failure of world leaders to effectively address climate change, makes it far from impossible. So in the near future it might become necessary to try something radical to slow down rapid climate change: Geoengineering. Interventions so massive in scale that they might undo centuries of human behavior. Or make everything much worse. What is geoengineering, is it really an option and what if it goes wrong?" #Geoengineering #ClimateChange #ClimateKrisis Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dSu5sXmsur4&t=21s007
