According to a recently published ‘science for policy brief’, written by colleagues at the JRC, they should be – as shrinking may well become the new normal for many cities, both in Europe and worldwide. - Foresight, advertising and the future of mobilityIn General AI·January 28, 2022Is Switzerland's Electric Vehicle Story A Preview For The Rest Of The Globe? - CleanTechnica I suspect that advertising has an incredible influence on people's views of the future, and therefore on the future itself. I find the genre "corporate journalism" is a rich source of futures-colonizing forward-looking narratives. Should we build a collection?2117

- The potential for decarbonising heavy industry ...In Climate & Geoengineering·January 26, 2022Industry in a net-zero emissions world: New mitigation pathways, new supply chains, modelling needs and policy implications | Elsevier Enhanced Reader (Energy and Climate Change, Volume 2, 2021.) " most existing industrial decarbonization analysis (assumes) that the world will maintain essentially the same heavy industry supply chain structure that has been used since the mid 1800s". "Global net-zero emissions means that these industries face far deeper transformation and potentially costly offsetting. It is also becoming clear.. that very low emissions in heavy industry are technically possible using a spectrum of new options, including demand management, materials efficiency, and direct and green hydrogen-based electrification of primary materials production, facilitated by the falling cost of renewable electricity. Very low emissions production chains mean changes to the location of the world's heavy industry, including splitting processes into components to allow use of large-scale low-cost renewable energy or access to geological CO2 storage, with implications for trade. ...."1321

- The 'BusKill' USB Cord Protects Laptop Data in the Event of TheftIn General AI·January 19, 2022"Using a laptop in a public space is commonplace for many mobile professionals but leaves them open to potential theft, so the 'BusKill' USB cord has been created as a piece of equipment for enhancing peace of mind amongst users. The device works by being set up with the computer using user-configurable triggers and being connected to the system when out in public or whenever users are weary about their physical security. The magnetic breakaway design of the cable will automatically carry out system locking or even data destroying if the laptop is separated from the owner. The 'BusKill' USB cord is ideal for use amongst avid travelers and activists, while also being great for journalists and crypto traders who want to ensure enhanced security." - Refraining from plowing can benefit the climateIn Climate & Geoengineering·February 7, 2022I am reading privately a book called "Klimaschmutzlobby" (like climate protection lobby, but the word "protection" swapped with "pollution"). In addition to institutions that actively prevent environmental protection, it also deals with agriculture and crops—for example, plowing releases a lot of CO2 from the soil. So if one renounces plowing, one will save half of CO2. But of course, agricultural machinery manufacturers don't like that. For me, plowing yesterday was a completely new insight, and therefore I wanted to share it with you. Additional source: https://bit.ly/3gvc3Dk https://bit.ly/3Ld0tKZ1211
