- Introduce yourselfIn WelcomeFebruary 14, 2022Hello everyone, I'm a Prague-based researcher at the non-profit organisation Czech priorities (České priority). Last year, we delivered a foresight study to the Czech government. Results in english language can be accessed from the website of the Czech Government Office: https://www.vyzkum.cz/FrontClanek.aspx?idsekce=962481 We are also currently setting up a new foresight project with the aim to embed foresight into decision making at the government level. For that, we decided to take a step back and assess their needs in order to tailor our approach and achieve more impact. Does anyone here have any experience with carrying out such a needs assessment for foresight? It would help us a lot to learn from your experiences. In case you'd be interested to discuss that matter, don't hesitate to contact me through this platform or at alex@ceskepriority.cz. We're glad to be part of this community and looking forward to hearing from you. Alexandre30

- Introduce yourselfIn WelcomeJanuary 19, 2022Ciao everybody, I am Erica from the Netherlands. I call myself a conscious future designer. I like to investigate and design for sustainable futures. At the moment I work for the foresight unit of the Joint Research Centre (European Commission), where we work on futures related projects. I also have a personal passion to promote futures literacy as a skill for young people and education. As young people go to school to prepare for the future, why is it they learn mostly about the past and the present and not really about the future. Of course the future doesn't exist, so you can't tell what is coming, but you can learn the skills to better prepare for the future. ✨30

- The potential for decarbonising heavy industry ...In Climate & GeoengineeringJanuary 26, 2022The problems with climate change and ecological disasters are not caused by the absence of innovation that has not happened yet, but by things we have, do and use. So the solution cannot be to only create new things. The solution must involve, first and foremost, thinking very deeply about the things we need to stop and make disappear. I do not think that the tendency to hang-on to things and ways is specific to the top or the bottom, although it is true that "the top" usually have more stuff and therefore, one could argue, higher responsibility for the problem and a higher potential to contribute to solving it.2

- Employee mental health is a huge concern after such a brutal stretchIn The Future of Health·January 30, 2022The global pandemic has highly affected the mental health of many. On the one hand, it has opened up doors to destigmatize mental health. On the other hand, due to changes and uncertainty like lockdowns and social distancing, it is not clear how things will develop once "things go back to normal". How do you believe mental health will develop in the workplace? And how will the health care industry transition? Will people have long-lasting effects? "[Employers] understand the impact on mental health is going to have a long tail on it. Once you've gotten vaccinated, mental health issues don't go away. And once you're back in the workplace, mental health issues don't go away," said Sandra Kuhn, the national leader for the behavioral health practice at benefits consulting firm Mercer." "The stigma around mental health is rapidly decreasing. It's now a part of everyday conversation. So employers have more visibility into mental distress in their workforce," said Joe Grasso, senior director of workforce mental health at Lyra Health, which provides employees access to a network of mental health professionals and related resources." - Facing up to an inconvenient truth: we’re part of the sugar problemIn The Future of Health·January 14, 2022The Dutch chocolate-making company Tony Chocolonely is known for its chocolate bars as well as their social impact regards child labor and slavery in the cacao industry. In addition to spreading awareness to social issues like human work and fair trade, Tony Chocolonely is now also lobbying for a sugar tax as they admit to being part of the health problem. "Thanks to Covid, health is, once again, a top priority. After all, we’re an impact company that makes chocolate, not the other way around. And besides, we were founded to tackle challenges in the cocoa industry, like modern slavery and illegal child labor. These will always remain our primary areas of focus. Sugar happens to be the inconvenient ingredient that helps make our work possible" (Tony Chocolonely, 2022). #health #food #company #impact Source:2021
