- Next Nature Future TravelsIn Lifestyles and the EnvironmentJanuary 26, 2022One greatest fantasy is to travel back in time...taking a few years of my own time to check things out things across the span of our evolution starting w/ the 'primordial ooze.' Fast forward to the dinosaurs, cave dwellers, Egyptians, Tang Dynasty, Greeks, Renaissance, you get the picture. I wouldn't shy away from future travel...but to a certain extent it relies upon human imagination and I'd be wondering a lot about the author.10
- Introduce yourselfIn WelcomeJanuary 28, 2022@Hanna Jertz You are right and if you have different cultural lenses, you see the future in a different light, again. We just discussed demographic change effects in China and Japan.1

- The Rise of A.I. Fighter PilotsIn General AIJanuary 26, 2022well said jana, That is why ,I believe, we need to worry about the people first than AI or robots. I agree as you wrote simply " Any AI/machine learning is as good as its developer " (for the time being though), hence, our focus must be on the developers (people) of any kind. We need to have the developer(s) think and have concerns about such responsibility now. Once in a discussion I mentioned that AI is very similar to give birth and raise a child. The parents are responsible of what kind of values the child will have and how it will be a part of the society, eventually humanity. The foundation is always the nest/home where the child is being developed (coded) into a fine person. If this job is done properly, then the surrounding social factors ( other people and the society) may not have a strong impact of this fine person crossing to the dark side. This may sound as wishful thinking but I still have faith in people :)10
- The Rise of A.I. Fighter PilotsIn General AIJanuary 25, 2022One of the problems is the basic understanding of AI as intelligence as we know it from humans with free will. So theoretically, any AI could become a danger to humans. I also think that Asimov's laws of robotics are elementary when it comes to the question of trust. After all, there have been cases in the past where one AI programmed another AI, and in a few days, they had developed a secret language and had to be shut down. * And even if the AI acts alone, it has been shown that it became right-wing radical after a few days due to the bad influence of humans. ** Any AI/machine learning is as good as its developer. And since humans are fallible, so will artificial intelligence. Sources: * https://bit.ly/3G2wcuy ** https://www.theverge.com/2016/3/24/11297050/tay-microsoft-chatbot-racist10
- Shrinking cities - a threat? In SandboxJanuary 28, 2022I think this is really interesting. Especially, during Corona but even before, people started to get out of the fast-pace lifestyle, valuing time in nature and being mindful of their decisions. Now, that it is even recommended to keep distance, it might influence more people to leave big cities and move towards a calmer, cleaner and quieter area. Now that people have more opportunities to work online, they can avoid/reduce the commute times and expenses and are not necessarily needed at a physical location.10

- Generation 2030: The Strategic Imperative of Youth Civic and Political EngagementIn Geopolitical ReconfigurationJanuary 24, 2022Really appreciate this article...young people are a huge 'lever of opportunity' for shaping better futures. Beyond the reoccurring pattern of counter-trends against trends, it seems there's the all too common 'economic' alliance between government and big business...because the system is still driven by a singular monetary metric...not a triple bottom line one...thus always thwarting/threatening civil society balance. And on top of that is big tech's data gathering. This 'chicken' condition promotes distance/disinterest in the youth, the 'egg' -perceiving it's too big to change anything anyway. For sure adopting really meaningful civil/govt programs in early education is a great idea long overdue. And also the emerging “intergenerational fairness” the article points to is certainly about layering in more impact metrics...but even this dimension, unfortunately, is quite gray in terms of how we can even agree to measure it. Much more discovery, mapping and creation to do.10
- Refraining from plowing can benefit the climateIn Climate & GeoengineeringFebruary 7, 2022Thanks for sharing this Jana. Have you seen the documentary "Kiss the ground"? They talk about regenerative agriculture and show its benefits. It is not only environmentally friendlier but this approach is also more efficient as more food can be produced which can ensure all people to have enough food. Through reducing plowing, you can increase the diversity and activities. It is incredibly what ground can do. Soil is the key.10
