Miquel Banchs-Piqué joined the Competence Center Foresight at the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI in October 2023 as a futures researcher. Prior to that, he worked as a Senior Specialist in Foresight and Knowledge Co-creation in the Centre for Foresight and Internationalization of the Polish Łukasiewicz Research Network. There he engaged both in foresight projects as well as in the process of acquiring funding for international R&D projects.
He has over a decade of experience in conducting, designing, and managing research projects in different fields, and in developing, customizing, and improving upon scientific methods. His areas of expertise extend from the energy system and space, to sustainability and circular economy. He earned his doctorate in Applied Foresight in the School of Civil Engineering and Surveying of the University of Portsmouth, UK. Before that he worked as a laboratory assistant, received an MSc in Photonics and studied Physics. Miquel has actively participated in a wide range of research and social projects. For instance, he led the "CO2 Industrial Ecosystems" project, focusing on sustainability and circular economy. Additionally, he was responsible for the sustainability, resilience, and high-level energy aspects of designing a one million people Mars city-state called "The Nüwa Concept". Furthermore, he founded the local chapter of the Economy for the Common Good in Portsmouth.
